Fishing Trips RSS

As the morning fog lifted and the first dim light of the sunrise crept through the thick overgrowth of the distant Jungle canopy the silence was sharply broken by the sound of a fish leaping and splashing back into its tranquil surrounds. The location was a closely held secret that required a long and arduous journey by only the stoutest hearts of true fishermen.. Your humble correspondent is man enough to admit that driving further than about 20 minutes around 5:00am just eats into sleeping in a nice warm bed.. so this is a story about fishing in a floodway...

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. It was the something or other compared with another thing"... pretty much that's my knowledge of "A Tale of Two Cities" to the point that I thought Victor Hugo had written it.. As far as a fishing based piece of literature it is a bit light going, however in terms of expressing diametric opposition in a philosophical bent, it's pretty good.. apparently. I love a sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains. Something something.. flooding rains.. and many more lines go towards making a wonderful and memorable poem about the magnificent land that in which we live and know as Australia. I'm constantly amazed at how little water bigger flathead will be comfortable to ambush their prey in!! Most of these fish in the pictures were in less than 50cm of water! The cool thing about taking a variety of lures out with you...

There was movement at the station for the word has passed around, the Colt from old Regret had got away.. it's the start of a great Australian poem which goes on about a bloke named Clancy of the Overflow, is mainly about another bloke and his horse but Clancy is in there too. When I was a child, along with wanting to be an axe-wielding Viking, I always used to think about this Clancy bloke wheeling them from the right. Mustering is pretty hard work, even harder if it's Brumbys on the side of a steep mountain.. all a bit...
